Figured y'all wouldn't want to miss these from a recent fire and smoke set with @anastasiamaye When she messaged me to ask if I'd be willing to shoot fire with her, based on seeing some of my other fire work, I pretty much said "I will always shoot fire - I'm a pyro." I used more words and mentioned boring things like "safety" and "burn prevention," but yeah. Fire may be my second favorite thing after photography. Also, as an aside, after speaking with one of my redheaded IRL friends this morning, I'm quickly forming ideas for a shoot involving fire and a redhead, so if you know of any redheaded models that might be traveling through the Virginia area and might be interested in shooting with fire, tell them to look my way.

* RAW * UNDEDITED * STRAIGHT OUT OF CAMERA * Part 1 of 2 Throwback to 2014 when the stars lined up and the still-learning photographer Buck managed an opportunity to shoot with the amazing (And somewhat goofy) @LondonAndrewsOfficial ! This was my first time using off-camera flash, and given my love of outdoor portraiture, I found a way to use a deep-cycle marine battery and a power inverter to drag my gear through the woods. I can still look back at this shoot fondly as a wonderful learning experience. As always, tips are appreciated for these posts with unedited outtakes, and previously unreleased photos as you won't see them anywhere else.

Life brings on new meaning, and new opportunities. I won't share Titania's personal story - that's her business, but it started similar to mine, with tragic loss. I see in her a fighting spirit that broke in me, and put me in a place with the taste of gun oil permeating my thoughts, as I was half a heartbeat away from squeezing the trigger and joining the big sleep. Instead, I had an awakening. Maybe it was God, maybe it was the perfect combination of firing neurons, but someone spoke to me at the end of that shotgun barrel and I said "Not today. Not any day." That night, I crossed a veil in our structure of humanity. I freed myself of petty burdens. I learned what it truly means to live, and for over ten years now, I have been more free than ever before. While I pray that my friend's path does not take her to the same brink, if it does, she knows that I have been there, staring death in the face, and walking away. She knows that if she hits rock bottom, that I am here on the other side, waiting to help her through in any way possible. We all deal with tragedy in different ways, but if you pay attention to the subtle signs, you will find the survivors, and they will understand better than anyone else.
