The items i deem as "lies" lol in the video, are of course based on my own preferences and experiences. Sex is super individual so some things that I think are totally untrue, someone else may have a totally different opinion. But i just think about this kind of stuff from time to time and thought it would be interesting to make a video out of it !
Also I'd like to add, maybe 10 Common Misconceptions about Sex could be a better title, because I certainly don't want to put the blame on porn. We get our ideas about sex, relationships, fetishes, sexuality, from all over the place! Media, who we spend time with, television, films, advertising. Porn is just one of the outlets which portrays some of the thoughts and ideas that are floating around in the... idea soup of the world? I think that what is shown in media and what people show us in life, partially is an indication of what it's like to live in their head. Their beliefs, stigmas, judgements, worries, shadow sides.
I think that what goes on in peoples minds, is what shows up in art, music, television, etc. And this is often where we start to build our ideas about what is right, wrong, interesting, etc, and that includes about sex.
So i don't think that porn has all the wrong ideas, of course not! I make adult content and I think there is much potential for education, inspiration and joy in this work. But I think, like anything, there is going to be all sorts of messages and types of content out there. Some with messages that are helpful or are going to resonate, and some that are not.
Sexuality is an especially challenging area. Sexuality can be something we don't talk about much, so because we don't have a solid understanding, it can be easy to be swayed by low level media, or get easily confused about what is really... really what we want. Expressing our wants and needs, being who we are, all of that is a life long journey I think and it shows up in sex very strongly as well.
