It was cold outside. You laid wide awake in your room. Held prisoner by your own thoughts. Torturing your soul with horrible things you’d tell yourself. You where always hard on yourself. Always so cruel. Never allowing yourself any happiness. Never allowing yourself a happy thought, or a smile. You laid in your bed nearly frozen. Not because of the cold that surrounded the outside of your home. But because you couldn’t find the will within you to move or adjust yourself. You just laid there perfectly still. For a moment of still silence you could hear the wind howling outside. And the leaves rustling off the branches of the trees. How lonely the sounds of late winter sounded... sinking your heart deeper than your head already sank into your pillow. Gentle taps on your window. A sign of company from a bird wanting inside your room. For a second you know you’re not alone in this feeling of emotional isolation. Tap tap tap... your breathing beginning to race faster and faster. The tapping of the bird’s beak bringing you to an anxiety attack. Your breathing gets faster and faster and faster. Your hands form into tightened fists. You begin to sweat. Then without thought, you sit up immediately in panic. Sitting up in the dark you struggle to relax your body, but the pecking and the tapping continues. You glance over at your window and see the bird. A small white bird. Staring at you. You stare at it. It stares back. And then you stare at it again and the bird is gone, with an angel in its place. A small girl. With wings fighting against the force of the wind. Her hair joining that battle as well. She remains starring at you. And without thought, without hesitation... you quickly slide your window open to invite her in from the violent grasps of the wind, but she doesn’t enter. Reaching her hand out to you, she keeps her eyes locked on yours.
You extend your hand to hers and her wings fold tightly inwards to enter your room through your window, standing on your bed. You close the window behind her while the both of you keep your eyes locked the entire time. Her mouth opens and the sounds that escape her sound unfamiliar. Like the tuning of a radio until the words she speaks are English. “I’m not allowed to go back to heaven.” It takes you a few moments to respond, but you do. “Why?” You ask. She gently sits on your bed wrapping your blankets around her body. She replies, “For falling in love with a human.” You hesitate to sit next to her, until she smiles and says, “You’re my human now” your eyes widen as you take a few steps back but she quickly approaches you evaporating and moving like a phantom leaning closely very fast until her arms are wrapped around your neck and her body is pressed against yours. “Mine mine mine mine mine!!!” Your body heating up quickly and your words getting caught with your tongue but she leans in nearly knocking you backwards. Your hands wrapping around her body as you catch your stance and balance. “Tell me you love me. Tell me you want me. Tell me you’re all mine.” She brushes her cheek against your face smelling your scent. She says to you, “You’re so warm, darling. Let’s sleep together. I want you to hold me the way I’ve seen you hold your pillow.” Your face now absolutely flushed red.
